Man, that means so much coming from you Zachary! And a huge congratulations on your second book. It looks so good. It's in the hopper for me to get to. I know this realm is your passion and wheelhouse too. You speak a good voice.

Sam, this post felt like familiar territory as it led me into beautiful memories. My late husband told me, "I never knew what I was missing before us. Looking back I recognize I have been a partner but until us I'd never been a lover".

That is just pure poetry from him! What a prized memory. Thank you for sharing.

Sam - this article is so good. More than I can go into here your words resonate with my story. God is using your gifts of vulnerability and insight (and prose) in my life. - and clearly in many others - wow - Congrats on selling 25,000 books and reaching 3000 on Substack!

I love the point that bringing warrior energy to the "battle" with lust is harmful and ineffective. But I don't think you're going far enough. We shouldn't just leave our warrior energy outside the door when we return home from the hostile world to our loving families. There is *no* domain of a man's life where the warrior is more effective than the lover.

The entire arc of Scripture is about God leading us away from that warrior ethos of strength and control and safety through power, and into an alternative kingdom of shalom, of mutual flourishing through trust and dependability. There is no role in that kingdom for a ruler or protector.
